A16 Rotterdam (Soltegro)

Description

The A16 Rotterdam is like the RijnlandRoute a tunnel which consists of a 2.1 kilometer tunnel situated in the Netherlands near Rotterdam. The project at Soltegro started in 2018 and is scheduled to finish at the end of 2022 when everything is delivered.

In the early phases of the project I was given a technical supporting role, because I was busy with the RijnlandRoute project. I was helping the 3D artists which were working on the A16 project with rendering videos out of Unity and basic implementation of technical systems. As time passed the the RijnlandRoute project was a bit less busy I worked more on the A16 Rotterdam, implementing the same systems as I implemented in the RijnlandRoute but with slight differences here and there. I took over the project when the development of the RijnlandRoute came to an end and switched to a supporting role, communicating directly with the clients which were using the A16 Rotterdam digital twin in their testing system. Here I was supporting them with fixing bugs and frame optimizations while working on the training system for the A16. I was also updating the application often so it would work with the latest software they had installed on their testing servers.

Because the A16 contains 97 cameras which are all streaming at the same time towards a video wall I had to optimize the application to be able to support all these cameras. During development I implemented a multiplayer solution so we could support all cameras streaming at the same time. A single application instance would simulate all the technical installations while other clients would connect and only support the rendering of the different cameras in the scene.
