Divergent Diamond Interchange

Description

The divergent diamond interchange is part of the RijnlandRoute. The aim of the application developed by Soltegro was to virtually verify the specific road situation that was temporarily going to be constructed. Since the special traffic crossing was the first one in the Netherlands the designers wanted to experience it for themselves first and check if there were enough signs to guide the traffic.

For this project I was assigned a supporting role to help with the technical implementation of the traffic simulation, which is done by the Simulation of Urban Mobility(SUMO) API. Besides the simulation I helped implementing the controlls for the different vehicles which could be controlled by a Logitech steering wheel. I also did the VR controlls implementation, some UI design and helped with the optimization of the scene so it would have a good framerate when viewed within the Oculus Rift headset.

In the end there was also some marketing material to be rendered from this project and I helped the 3D artist who was working on this to setup the different camera splines and timings by providing a simple Unreal blueprint.
